Under the Sea

contributed by Ms. Rossana Cuschieri, Class Teacher Year 3.3

Without a doubt, plastic plays an important role in our everyday lives. This material is durable, low cost, and water-resistant. That is why it is widely used all over the world. But what happens when it ends up in the sea?

A short documentary about the negative effects of plastic on the sea got the discussion started in our class. It was amazing to see how engaged students got when we discussed such a topic. Taking care of the sea means a lot to them; they are fascinated by the different creatures under the sea, and it is wonderful to listen to their great ideas of how we can protect them.

The students moved from a very interesting discussion, to engaging activities, to creating their own class aquarium. It was a fun session during which they showed how such an important issue is close to their hearts. It is very encouraging to see the future generation so eager to take care of our environment.
