Erasmus +

What is Erasmus+?

The acronym ‘Erasmus’ stands for “EuRopean Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students.” It is the European Union’s programme that supports education, training, and sport initiatives among youths in Europe. All 27 EU member states together with 6 non-EU countries can participate in this program, managed by 55 national agencies.

Aims

The main aim of Erasmus+ is to encourage international learning and cooperation between organisations and policy-makers. It also strives to improve inclusion, innovation and the quality of education and training in the EU.

The programme draws its inspiration from Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, or Erasmus of Rotterdam. The 16th century Dutch educationalist who travelled around Europe in a time of growing religious reformations is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the Western Culture.

Erasmus+ Main areas

Erasmus+ focuses on three main areas, or key actions, which are:

  • Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals
  • Key Action 2: Cooperation among Organisations and Institutions
  • Key Action 3: Support to Policy Development and Cooperation

5 Year Accreditation

In 2023, the Archbishop’s Minor Seminary obtained the official recognition and approval to participate in the Erasmus+ programme. This accreditation, which is valid for five years, allows the school to engage in the educational activities that the programme supports and to benefit from funds that make these activities available to all.

Key Action 1

The main focus of the school is Key Action 1 (Learning Mobility of Individuals). This initiative aims to give students the chance to enhance their education by studying in a different country. Additionally, student mobility helps develop important skills such as communication, language, intercultural problem-solving, and research.

In addition to supporting student mobility, the school also offers its educators opportunities for job-shadowing and training sessions with teaching staff from other European schools.

Accreditation Objectives

This accreditation is valid for five years. It allows the school to engage in the educational activities supported by the program and benefit from funds that make these activities accessible to everyone.

The objectives that the School has set for this five-year period are related to inclusion, sustainability, digital skills, physical and mental well-being, reducing insular mentality and strengthening leadership skills.
