Water Conservation Projects in our School

contributed by teachers of Environmental Studies

It is a well-known fact that our islands have always struggled with fresh water availability. This is attributed to the fact that our islands lack natural fresh water bodies such rivers, lakes or even mountains. To top all of this, we also experience unreliable rainfall patterns. Past campaigns regarding this matter, such as ‘Water – Be the Change’ were aimed at raising awareness amongst Maltese citizens in order to try and conserve this precious resource we lack.

This issue was widely discussed with our Year 9 students these past weeks during Environmental Studies lessons. As educators we were very pleased to see that our students are fully aware of this issue and of what we, as a nation, can do in order to conserve water. As part of their assessment, the students were asked to create a poster which promotes water conservation. The following posters are a sample of the students’ work.
