During our literature lessons with Year 8 students, we are reading and discussing the book ‘Robin Hood’ by Stephen Colbourn. The story is about a young, brave man, who wants to enter an archery competition in Nottingham. He is disturbed by the current situation in England, where nobles, priests and knights continually take advantage of poor people, who are forced to pay exorbitant taxes, or else…
In Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood becomes the leader of a band of outlaws whose mission is to steal from the rich to give to the poor. His daring actions anger many people in power such as the Sheriff of Nottingham and evil Prince John whilst the poor sing him praises.
The students were asked to take a chapter from Robin Hood and transform it into drama script format. They needed to write up a dialogue involving different characters and think about stage directions, props, and costumes to present the chapter in a creative, effective way. Here are some pictures of the students performing their outstanding interpretations of Robin Hood.
