contributed by Ms. Alison Debono, Year 6.1
Christmas is one of the most important feasts in the Christian calendar. Students of Year 6.1 engaged in an activity which aimed at teaching them the importance of focusing on the Christian aspect of CHRISTmas during this special time of the year. Our society is often blinded by materialism. Therefore we have to teach our children that there is a difference between the happiness acquired from endless desires for material wealth and spirituality which gives us long-lasting jubilation in our hearts. This activity helped them to connect man-made Christmas traditions such as the Christmas tree, with its real, spiritual significance. Students worked together to set up the classroom Christmas tree. Each student wrote their healtfelt prayers and blessings on differently-coloured paper baubles. The students shared their prayers with their friends and as groups they went to hang their baubles on our lovely Christmas tree. How rewarding it is to watch our young generations understand the real meaning of Christmas!
“Whenever material things, money, worldliness, become the center of our lives, they take hold of us, they possess us; we lose our very identity as human beings,”
– Pope Francis, 29 September 2013.
