Beyond the classroom walls and back

Non-formal education is an opportunity for each and every child to learn and grow physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially outside the school context. This addition to formal education plays an important role in a child’s life. Class 8 Azzopardi is an ideal example of such education. The students have grouped themselves according to the type of non-formal education they engage in beyond the classroom walls.

Football

“Football is a sport which could be fun at the same time. We constantly train in order to be good at it. Although we train in separate clubs, what is common between us brings us together. This is how our character is continuously shaped through the disciplinary skills obtained”.

Nick Spiteri, Shicane Attard, Jordi Vassallo, Matthew Muscat, Emanuele Ellul, Zackary Zammit, and Shaun Seisun.

Art

“Art helps you to express yourself in many ways. We normally do so by playing a part in acting, voicing our tone and message through singing and expressing feeling through dancing. This helps us build self-confidence whilst being committed to what we do”.

Gianluca Abdilla Castillo, Scott Zahra and Isaac Cuschieri Magro.

Martial Arts

“Martial arts, also a form of sport is taught to defend ourselves whilst feeling calm at the same time. Muay Thai, Kung Fu and Ninjutsu are all examples. They are hard to practise, but putting this practice in a competition against others is an experience in itself”.

Luca Attard, Jake Gomez Blanco, Christian Baldwin and Mathias Debattista.

Swimming

“Swimming has been a part of my life for nine years and it has changed me in many ways. It continuously helps me to deal with stress because when I am practising this sport, I feel so focused that my thoughts vanish and I feel more relaxed”.
