Every year, EU Code week, a European initiative that aims to encourage coding and digital literacy in a fun way takes place from mid to late October.
During this year’s EU Code Week, Year 9 Computing students were invited to watch two programming-related videos followed by a short brainstorming session whereby students were asked, “Why is programming carried out?”
The feedback given by our year 9 students was interesting and some of the reasons they gave for programming were:
-To offer an online service.
-To upgrade a program.
-To promote a product or a group of products.
-To offer information to those that need it.
Following the brainstorming session, students were invited to play Minecraft to solve puzzles by using programming techniques. The enthusiasm in such a fun environment was evident.
