contributed by Ms. Denise Cassar, Year 4.3
Students learn best when learning is active, such as when they are engaged in hands-on classroom activities. Year 4 students look forward to English grammar lessons, as they learn grammar in a fun way by putting into practice the grammar point introduced during that particular lesson.
The first grammar topic done in year 4 is putting words into alphabetical order. After going through the alphabet and explaining how words are listed in alphabetical order, students were divided into groups. Each group was given a set of wooden pegs, with words written on them and they put them in order, by clipping them on to a coloured paper.

When doing the second topic, ‘Articles’, students were given a set of word cards with an article and a noun. Subsequently, students created their own story in groups, using as many cards as possible and they also used adjectives to make their writing more interesting. Finally, they shared their story with the rest of the class.
