Using the Maths Tool Bags

contributed by Ms. Roberta Mallia Class 1.1

Since the primary classes have just introduced the CPA (concrete, pictorial, abstract) approach to Mathematics, we have also introduced the Maths tool bags in our primary classrooms. The Maths tool bags include various tangible resources, such as dominoes, dice, bottle caps and wooden timers, that the children can utilise during Mathematics lessons in order to experience this core subject in a more relatable and engaging way. The following was a typical example when our year 1.1 pupils could enjoy a hands-on Mathematics session. We used our bottle caps on the ten-frames templates in order to create different values. Whoever said Mathematics has to be boring?
