One of our writing genres in year 4 is \u2018written\ninstructions\u2019. During this lesson we discussed how instructions are written to\nlet someone know how to do something. A typical example of instructions is when\nwe follow a recipe. Through this lesson, students learned that when writing\ninstructions we write in the present tense and we use imperative verbs and\nadverbs to begin each step. They also understood the importance of clear,\nnumbered instructions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with the teacher, students discussed how a Jam\nSandwich is made.  Subsequently, they\nmade a list of things they would need and then wrote the method. After writing\ntheir instructions, the students  took\nout two slices of bread, butter, jam, a plastic plate and a plastic knife which\nthey brought from home.  Finally, they\nfollowed their own instructions and made a Jam Sandwich. The students enjoyed\neating their own Jam Sandwich in class!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
