St. Paul\nshipwrecked on the Maltese coast. At that time the island was known as\n\u2018Melita\u2019. &nbsp;St. Paul was being taken to\nRome in order to to be prosecuted by a Roman jury. Though the ship carrying him\nand some 247 others was caught in a heavy storm and was shipwrecked, all aboard\nswam safely to land.&nbsp;&nbsp; The Maltese people\ngave a warm welcome to St. Paul and his people.&nbsp;\nThey fed them and lit up a fire.&nbsp;\nSt. Paul was bitten by a poisonous snake but he suffered no\nillness.&nbsp; The Maltese realised that he\nmust be a special man.&nbsp; He cured Publius\u2019s\nfather from a serious fever and the former &nbsp;became the first Bishop of Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In Malta we celebrate the Feast of\nSt. Paul on the 10<sup>th<\/sup> February and a collegiate church dedicated to\nhim is found in Valletta..&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I &nbsp;can proudly say that I was baptised in this\nChurch which my family and I are very fond of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:right\" class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em><strong>by Esekiel Vella, Year 7P<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.maltaseminary.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/the-shipwreck.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1983\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.maltaseminary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/the-shipwreck.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.maltaseminary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/the-shipwreck-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.maltaseminary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/the-shipwreck-768x360.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.maltaseminary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/the-shipwreck-360x169.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As the Holy Bible states, it was the\napostle Paul himself who introduced\nChristianity to Malta in the year 60 AD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Christianity was introduced to Malta by St.\nPaul himself as he was being taken to Rome to be tried as a political rebel.\nHowever, during this voyage, they were caught in a harsh storm and were wrecked\nin Malta. Once they swam ashore, the Maltese helped them by first starting a\nfire. Paul, who was by this fire, was bit by a poisonous snake but this did not\naffect him leading people to believe he was a special man. During his stay, he\nconverted the Maltese to Catholics with Publius becoming the first Bishop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This is such an important episode in\nMaltese History &nbsp;that the 10<sup>th<\/sup>\nFebruary is a public feast.
