Every year, EU Code week, a European initiative that aims to encourage\ncoding and digital literacy in a fun way takes place from mid to late October. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this year\u2019s EU Code Week, Year 9 Computing students were invited\nto watch two programming-related videos followed by a short\nbrainstorming session whereby students were asked, “Why is\nprogramming carried out?” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feedback given by our year 9 students was interesting and some of the\nreasons they gave for programming were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-To offer an online service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-To upgrade a program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

-To promote a product or a group of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-To offer information to those that need it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the brainstorming session, students were invited to play\nMinecraft to solve puzzles by using programming techniques. The enthusiasm in\nsuch a fun environment was evident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
