contributed by Ms. Bernice Buttigieg Class 4.1<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n During our first Art\n& Crafts session of this scholastic year, which is held every Friday during\nthe last two lessons, the students were encouraged to create colourful drawings\nof various fruit. These were inspired by the bright and vivid style of American\nartist Andy Warhol (1928-1987). He was one of the pioneers of the art movement\nknown as Pop Art and his work revolves around artistic expression, portraiture\nand advertising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The students were asked\nto observe and discuss various artworks by Warhol. We noticed the use of\ncolours, the effect they create and how these can differ when juxtaposed to other\ncolours. The students also pointed out that certain shades stand out better\nagainst particular colours and vice versa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The students created\nfruit using basic shapes and adding details as they went along. They were\nencouraged to experiment with various shades of the same colour or completely\ndifferent colours in order to create striking contrasts or monochromes. They\nalso drew patterns in the background to create movement and add detail. \n\nAlthough some\nstudents were uncertain before starting off, they all completed their drawings\nsuccessfully and meaningfully, which gave them a sense of satisfaction.
