The English Speaking Board Exams

Exams for Form 1, 2 and 3

Wed 11 Mar 2009

For the third year running, our school organized the English Speaking Board (ESB) exams for Form 1, 2 and 3. This year it was decided to include the Form 3 following the success of previous years. The examiners were Ms Deborah Bone for Form 1, Ms C. Bunty Gulliford for Form 2A and 3A, Ms Bryony Huntly for Form 2B and 3B.

A word of thanks goes to Ms Mireille De Gabriele who prepared the students with the help of Ms Maria Pace, Mr Sebastian Saliba and Mr Robert Pisani. The Assistant Head, Ms Carmen Sammut was in charge of the organization.

Congratulations to all the students who sat for these exams,  particularly the best students in each form, namely Neil Muscat of Form 1B, Colin Deguara of Form 2B and Gabriel Agius of  Form 3B. These students were  awarded a certificate and a medal.

Ms M Pace commented as follows:
“I was amazed by the effort that Form 1 students did. Their personalities really came out. With a little more time for practice they would all get a distinction”

Many students commented favourably about their performance. Here are some comments.

“It’s a good idea because the children get to know how good they are in spoken English.”
Samuel Zarb
Form 1B

“About the ESB, I felt a bit shy at first but when I was doing it, I felt  very proud and I was so happy  doing it. The presentation was very interesting and I felt that I was talking with someone. I think that ESB helps you to better your English.”
Neil Borg
Form 1B

“It was an interesting experience and I really enjoyed it especially the bit when we had to ask questions”
Samuel Cutajar
Form 1B

“The examiner was very friendly and the exam wasn’t very hard. I had fun doing it and it is very educational. I am looking forward for next year to come”
Mirco Vella
Form 1B

“The ESB is an experience which I will never forget – I learnt all sorts of things from other people’s presentations. I had to wait a bit until it was my turn but the examiners were very friendly. I liked the part where I tried to answer all the questions.”
Luke Borg Barthet
Form 1B
